Exhibition Introduction
This exhibition, from the personal collection of Mitra Khezerlou, showcases a series of works by Iranian artists, titled “Women & Identify”. In these pieces, women are portrayed as complex and multifaceted beings—individuals who have often been overlooked throughout the intricacies of history, society, and culture, yet remain at the heart of human narratives.
The exhibition “Women and Identity” is a visual journey into the inner and outer worlds of women, where their identity is shaped not only by historical and cultural legacies but also by personal and social experiences. These works explore the complex layers of female life, including social roles, individual struggles, strengths, vulnerabilities, and the ongoing quest to find oneself in a world that places many expectations and constraints on women.
In this exhibition, artists use color, form, and visual symbols to tell stories of womanhood—stories that speak of the tension between individual and societal identity, freedom and confinement, beauty and pain. Each painting is a unique voice, drawn from real life or imagination, challenging the boundaries of gender, culture, and society.
The goal of this exhibition is to open a dialogue between the viewer and the artworks, encouraging reflection on the roles of women in different societies, their identity struggles, and their relentless fight to reach their true selves. “Women and Identity” is an invitation to see women not as mere symbols, but as beings with multifaceted and complex identities, constantly evolving and re-creating themselves each day.
